Blackboard's proprietary software for our Premier package allows integration with several data sources and offers different ways of retrieving data: Custom File uploads,  ODBC, and API connections depending on the data source characteristics. On-premises databases usually allow us to connect via ODBC, while other data sources will have a dedicated API.​ 

Depending on your systems, we will support as much of the ETL (Extract, Transfer/Transform, Load) and implementation as possible. If we don’t have an existing integration with a data source, information must be supplied by the district. An example of this could be HR data sources. Because of the extent of HR systems, and the sensitive data they hold, it is likely that a third-party integration may not be allowed. Depending on the capabilities of the district, some additional scripts may need to be developed to help execute the completion of the implementation.

Premier Implementation Overview: 

1. We will determine if the data source(s) allows ODBC, API, Custom File Uploads or Plugin integration
   1. For systems such as HR that may not allow an ODBC or API connection, please provide those files via SFTP.  ​
2. Working with your System/Server/Network Administrator, install Blackboard's proprietary data transfer software or plugins to extract your data. ​
3. Once the installation is complete, we will import your data and review it to verify it is accurate to your needs, based on the initial project scope.​
4. We will then map your data to your Bb Comms portal and, if necessary, create customized SQL queries, API, and/or plugin maintenance. ​​
5. Finally, we will schedule your Data Verification Meeting. ​

• Use existing or create your own queries.
• Send data files and confirm data is coming over.
• Set schedule(s) for daily file transfers.
